Union Structure review to take place

The CWU will be taking a good look at it structure over the coming year.

The main problem we are suffering is we are a union that is structured for dealing with a membership of 300,000 people. That is currently running at only two thirds of that figure, despite the Telecoms constituency slightly growing in membership over the past couple of years.

The affects of the sell off of the Royal mail and the changes in technology in that industry has seen a decline in numbers, which is a similar effect that was seen when BT was privatised in the early 80’s.

It new General Secretary has lead the way on this review that will hopefully make us fit for purpose with our current membership and that will hopefully assist us going forward. Early discussions will take place at annual conference this year, with motions being put on the agenda that should aid that process as it develops.
