Swine Flu

Swine Flu (/websites/LinuxPackage09/cw/uc/ap/

In the past few weeks, there has been (and probably will continue to be for the remainder of this year at least) much media coverage regarding the H1N1 “Swine” strain of influenza.

All types of influenza claim lives each year around the world, though not necessarily through the illness itself, more the impact on those particularly with pre-existing medical conditions. This would also include the “bird” or avian H5N1 which you may recall over recent years.

Circumstances and briefings on this appear to be changing all the time and so the best place to get up-to-date information is via the NHS direct on:

Alternatively telephone 0800 1 513 513.

BT also has advice for employees;

  • if you develop flu like symptoms stay at home, inform your line manager and seek medical advice. Don't return to work until your symptoms have cleared up and/or you've been given clearance by a health professional
  • if you've had contact with an infected person and are also showing flu-like symptoms, stay away from work to minimise the risk of spreading the virus. Seek medical advice and only return to work when cleared to do so by a health professional.
